The reason why I chose the topic of climate change and water events is that I have always been interested in climate change and how it is affecting the environment, especially the water events like flooding, hurricane activity, and heavy precipitation. One time, I was at home, and it was raining really hard. Most roads were flooded in my area. The good thing is that my house is kind of on a hill, but my house is older, so if water got into our basement, it would not be good since there is a lot of storage and a lot of electrical stuff in the basement, which could cause serious issues that would cost a lot of money.
Climate change has always been somehow affecting everyday life. Even when you don’t think it is. For instance, the temperatures have been so irregular these past years. Places that are known for being sunny and having no snow are getting tons of snow. But that is just one thing: the global temperature has increased 2% since 1850, and this is updated from 2024. So think about what it will be like a couple of years from now if we don’t get on top of it. Water sources are also being affected by this change since the precipitation events are even stronger. Drought is becoming more common since there is not enough rain, and it makes runoff difficult since the air is so polluted.
I chose to target teens since they are the future and will be able to make decisions very soon. I feel that teens are sometimes a little bit more open-minded about change and have more determination and hope in what they can do to help our earth. I am also a teen, and I want to make a difference but just need the right tools to be able to. I feel giving information about this topic of climate change and water events can be very informative. I have been very interested in this topic since I want the earth to be healthy and people to come together. It is going to take time to achieve a big change, but I am very hopeful about what we can do to make this planet a better place for future generations. I believe that young teens are the future of it all. I want this to motivate you to make a difference, even if it is small; anything can be better than doing nothing at all.
There are some people who think otherwise, saying that climate change is not a thing or happening. The percentage of people who say climate change is not happening and don't believe in it in general is around 14%; this is from 2023. A lot of people in Congress/presidents are in between, acknowledging that it is an important issue but not a priority to rush. This can also lead to people being in denial about what is happening to Earth and how it is warming. There are a lot of people who would rather hear from climate scientists and not websites that can be iffy. On the other hand, there are plenty of people who just don't believe in scientists and their research.
So no matter what is said about how climate change is or is not affecting our climate and water events, such as certain parts of the world that have no fresh water and have to use groundwater, the fact is that most people are able to see that climate change is affecting water events. For instance, the precipitation is heavier and storms are becoming more severe. The fact that the temperature has risen.
